CORTLAND, Ohio -  The man who deputies say ran over his granddaughter in Vernon Township has been released from jail as a grand jury considers charges against him.

A preliminary hearing was held Thursday for 55-year-old Calvin Barger Jr., who is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and DUI.

Investigators say Barger had a blood alcohol level of 0.094 when he was driving a truck that struck 16-month-old Kaleeha Queen of Warren.

The child was flown to Akron Children's Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The Summit County Medical Examiner ruled the death as a traffic accident, saying the child died from head injuries.

Barger told deputies he had three to four drinks while working on a home improvement project with a relative.

Deputies say the toddler was playing on a swing set but got in the way of the vehicle as it pulled out.

During Thursday's court hearing, Barger's case was sent to the Trumbull County Grand Jury for further consideration.

Barger was released from the county jail on a $20,000 bond following the hearing with a provision that he be monitored electronically.
