YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The third round of stimulus checks are hitting back accounts, but those who receive social security are still waiting to find out when their money will arrive.

The Democratic-lead Ways and Means committee sent a letter to the Social Security Administration last week, urging the agency to release millions of files to the IRS, so that it could obtain information on who to send checks to.

Those who collect social security and supplemental security income do not have to file federal tax income.

The IRS obtained the data, but a date on when it plans to send checks out to social security recipients has yet to be announced.

Close to 30 million people receive social security and supplemental security income.

Worried while he waits for an update, Jimmie Exline, of Warren, lives on a fixed income of $770 a month.

The social security recipient says the third stimulus check would help with rising expenses likes grocery prices amid the pandemic.

"We're having to depend on food pantries, so this money would help with bills, with food, with just daily necessities," Exline said.

21 News reached out to valley lawmakers on Monday to find out if they had any information on when the third stimulus checks would be sent out.

Senator Sherrod Brown and other democratic lawmakers reached out to the Social Security Administration leadership last week, urging for the transfer of files to the IRS.

Brown's office released this statement saying in part that they "expect the checks to be going out soon. Brown will continue to monitor the situation and advocate on behalf of Social Security beneficiaries in Ohio."
