Valley Congressman Tim Ryan is one of 13 House Democratic lawmakers urging the USPS to halt building its next-generation delivery vehicles.

The U.S. Postal Service's governing board awarded the contract to a Wisconsin company to build 165 thousand vehicles, but only 10 percent will be electric.

Ryan along with other lawmakers wants the decision to be delayed until a full review of the contract is completed by President Biden's three nominees waiting to be seated on the Postal Board of Governors.

"With so many questions and concerns surrounding the new contract, with critical legislation pending, and with a new board majority on the horizon, pausing the process until President Biden's nominees are confirmed is both necessary and appropriate. These matters, in addition to the overall leadership of Postmaster General DeJoy, must be appropriately reviewed before USPS proceeds with what we believe would be a colossal mistake," the members wrote in the letter.

The lawmakers argue building only 10 percent of the fleet as electric vehicles go against the President's commitment to an electric vehicle future.

Earlier this month, Ryan joined with other members to reintroduce the Postal Vehicle Modernization Act, which would provide the USPS with the $6 billion needed to electrify the postal fleet.
