YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Mahoning County Dog Warden's Office is looking for information on a driver they say purposefully hit a dog.

The incident happened on the Madison Avenue Expressway near the exit to Wilson and Himrod Avenues Tuesday night.

According to the Dog Warden's Office, a young woman was trying to rescue a dog from the freeway while walking along the divider wall.

When the dog ran along the wall towards her, a black car was heard accelerating and swerved towards the dog, hitting him.

The Dog Warden's Office says the dog was hit into the air and came down hitting the divider wall, killing him.

The dog was a brown and white pit bull mix, was un-neutered and did not have a collar.

The car is believed to have been a black Ford Fusion or Subaru.

Anyone with information can call the Dog Warden's Office at 330-740-2205.

If you believe the dog could be yours, contact the office to make arrangements.
