WARREN, Ohio -  A Warren man who was accused of running down a teenager on a dirt bike has been sentenced to spend the next three years behind bars.

Steven Heckman, 21, was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty earlier in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to one count of aggravated vehicular assault. Charges of failure to stop after an accident and operating a vehicle under the influence were dropped.

Heckman was indicted for a May 20, 2020 incident in Warren where police say Heckman was driving a truck that struck a dirt bike being driven by a 16-year-old boy at Union Street SW and Parkman SW.

Police found bystanders pinning Heckman to the ground about a block away after they say he had tried to run away from the accident scene.

According to the police report, officers found Heckman carrying a bag of pills and admitted taking several Xanax to harm himself.

The report described the dirt bike rider’s injuries as serious.
