Ohio National Guard hosts explosives training

Being prepared for missions includes a lot of intense and meticulous training. The Ohio National Guard is keeping their soldiers on their toes, doing just that.
"Working with others, dealing with explosives, and working as a team, so for mission readiness, that's extremely important," said Devan Rios, Private First Class for the Ohio National Guard.
The military men and women were trained on how to clear and make obstacles using various explosives that will slow their enemies down.
This training is supposed to help soldiers to establish a foundation as combat engineers.
"This is very important, that they know how to prime and set off the military explosives correctly," said Ronald Fry, Sergeant First Class for the Ohio National Guard. "Especially when they're downrange, or they're on a mission, the charge doesn't go off right; the mission is a failure," he said.
Fry tells 21 News that failed missions can mean the difference between life and death. Handling the explosives was also nerve-wracking for some soldiers.
"Definitely dealing with the C-4, I was a little stressed, but I got over it," said Rios.
"We have a great instructor team here, and they put forth every bit of effort to try to give them as much as the experience that we have," said Fry.
Soldiers come from all over the country to participate in the James A. Garfield Joint Military Training Center training.
