AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - An Austintown man is facing charges after he allegedly stole a catalytic converter from a local business.

Police say 48-year-old Matthew Burns cut a lock off the gate to Spitnale's Garage on the 3700 block of Mahoning Avenue between February 23rd and 25th.

Reports say Burns cut the catalytic converter off a Jeep in the storage yard.

Austintown police responded to a home on the 4000 block of Lanterman Road Monday after reports of Burns being at the residence.

Police say Burns ran when he saw officers and hid in a hidden room under and addition of the home.

Officers were granted permission to search the home from the owner after setting up a perimeter at the residence.

According to the report, after about 20 minutes of searching, officers found the hidden room and were able to get Burns to come out.

Burns was taken into custody on warrants for theft, criminal tools, criminal damage and criminal trespassing.

An arraignment hearing is set for Wednesday at 9 a.m. for Burns.
