In-person ceremony set for Mercy College of Ohio-Youngstown grads

YOUNGSTOWN - For the first time in 17 months, graduates at Mercy College of Ohio's Youngstown location will take part in an in-person commencement ceremony.
Mercy Health says many of the 34 nursing graduates -- including Carly Thomas -- completed the majority of their coursework during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The rapid changes brought about by the pandemic with the stress of nursing school were the most challenging things I've ever faced," Thomas said. "Online nursing education was a huge transition for all of us. The college faculty helped us get the best possible experience along the way. I feel prepared to begin my nursing career."
Thomas will graduate with an associate of applied science in nursing and will continue her career at Mercy Health.
Mercy Health adds the "Misericordia et Cura Award" will be awarded to Kim Pavel. Pavel is the associate program director for the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing Program at the college's Youngstown location.
According to Mercy Health, the award is the highest honor given by the college that recognizes people who focus on the values that are vital to the healing ministry and by their lives embody the college motto "Misericordia et Cura," meaning compassion and care.
The ceremony will be at St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown at 6 p.m. on May 10.
