YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A Cleveland area man is being held in the Mahoning County jail after police say he was impersonating agents from several federal agencies.

Police in the Cleveland suburb of Brook Park say they pulled over Gregory Candea on Saturday, saying he had activated blue police-type flashing lights on his pickup truck, driving through a red light.

When the pickup finally stopped, police say Candea told him he was a Central Intelligence Agency agent working undercover.

Candea, who was wearing a shirt with a CIA emblem, produced a Federal Bureau of Investigation badge, explaining that he also works for the FBI.

Officers say there were a pair of handcuffs and a Drug Enforcement Agency badge in the cab of the truck. Candea claimed that he worked for the U.S. Treasury Department.

After officers confirmed that Candea was not an FBI employee and had failed to appear in court on several warrants, Candea was placed under arrest.

Asked why he failed to appear in court, Candea said “I never go to court. I have too much authority in the United States.”

Officers also found a stun gun, police radios, envelopes with return addresses identifying Candea as a “Pentagon Official”.

Paperwork indicated that Candea had purchased two, 800-round cases of ammunition, a semi-automatic pistol, and had attempted to buy an AK rifle but needed a federal firearms license.

During a hearing before a U.S. District Magistrate on Monday, Candea was turned over to the custody of U.S. Marshals who detain some suspects in the Mahoning County jail.
