WARREN, Ohio - The Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County says more dogs were seized as part of an ongoing investigation into an alleged dog fighting operation in Warren.

The welfare league shared an update to its Facebook page, saying that officers were able to seize five more dogs at a third location in connection to the case on Wednesday. In total, they've taken in 12 dogs so far as part of the investigation.

On Tuesday, police arrived at a home on Austin Avenue for what they believed to be just a search warrant to uncover dangerous drugs.

Warren police said they discovered what they called an elaborate dog fighting operation in the garage of the home while they were searching for drugs.

The garage had a ring with harnesses, a treadmill and a hanging digital scale, all tools for what the detectives believe was for the dog fighting operation.

Police said this is one of the worst dog fighting operations they have ever seen in the city of Warren.

Seven dogs believed to be part of the alleged operation were originally found at another location in Warren Township on Tuesday. The dogs were loaded up into two vehicles after being taken out of cages where they were being kept.

The Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County as well as Warren police were on the scene Tuesday.

"The hard thing is with cases like this, we often see conditions or ailments that always show up over the next week or so," Lori Shandor said, CEO of the Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County.

Shandor said the dogs found on Tuesday were "pretty small," but were in fair condition overall. She believes that once the case makes it through the court system, the dogs will be up for adoption.

Charges are pending for at least one suspect in the case, 42-year-old Stanley Edward Redd Jr., who was booked in the Trumbull County Jail on a parole violation Tuesday.
