Floodwater construction in Boardman Twp. causes controversy

BOARDMAN, Ohio - Boardman Township started a major million dollar project to fix a broken pipe causing flooding issues.
"Right now we have a construction project going on in heather's neighborhood," Boardman Township Administrator Jason Loree said, "We're actually fixing some crushed pipe that helps convey the water through the neighborhoods, so it doesn't flood and we're replacing it with a box culvert."
In order to get this done without disrupting traffic, Loree said they need a separate work area, which is set up at the intersection of Lockwood and Sheilds. Right next to 30-year Boardman resident Alan Long who said the sight and sound are "ridiculous" and feels the township is violating his rights.
"I'm losing sleep over it," Long said, "This is just an infringement on my rights as a citizen as a person that lives in this township."
The Township said they're following the ordinances and revised code and said this was the most efficient area to gather material.
"Where the sites located and proximity to residential and the fire station...there's nothing being violated in terms of location, or job condition, or site condition," Loree said.
Loree said workers are following the noise ordinance window between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and said the project will be finished in two months.
