New Castle police have arrested a teenager following the death of a toddler.

Police say 18-year-old Quadir Poland was arrested Monday following an investigation into the 3-year-old female's death.

According to New Castle Police, the toddler was found unresponsive on April 24 at an apartment on the 900 block of Sankey Street.

The child was taken to UPMC Jameson and then transferred to UPMC Children's hospital in Pittsburgh.

Police say the child passed away on April 28 and an autopsy was performed by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office.

Detectives arrested Poland and he allegedly confessed to shaking the child repeatedly.

According to police, Poland was the paramour of the child's mother.

He has been charged with criminal homicide and aggravated assault and is being held in the Lawrence County Jail without bond.
