YOUNGSTOWN - Two events from America’s history will be marked on Sunday with a rally in front of the Mahoning County Courthouse.

Several community groups will gather at 3 p.m. to commemorate one year since the murder of George Floyd and one hundred years since the massacre of Black Americans in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The “Remembering and Taking Action” rally is being organized by Mahoning Valley Sojourn to the Past.

One hundred years ago on May31-June 1, 1921, Greenwood, the Black area of Tulsa, Oklahoma, also known as "Black Wallstreet", was attacked by large group of white men, including public officials and policemen.

More than three hundred people were killed. Homes, businesses, churches were destroyed.

On Sunday, May 30th at 3:00 p.m. participants will gather to remember these events and discuss action steps they can take to further social justice in the community.

Other organizations taking part include the African American Wellness Agency, Baptist Pastors Council, the Community Mobilization Coalition, the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Youngstown, the Jewish Relations Council of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation, the Mahoning Valley Association of Churches, the MLK Planning Committee, the League of Women Voters of Greater Youngstown, and the Islamic Society of Greater Youngstown.
