UNITY TWP., Ohio - One person has died after a semi-truck crash in Columbiana County. 

The accident happened around 3:30 a.m. Monday on State Route 46 at the intersection of State Route 558 in Unity Township. 

Troopers said a 1999 International semi tractor-trailer driven by 43-year-old Jeffrey Akins of Perry, Ohio, was going eastbound on State Route 558 downhill when he failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection. 

They said Akins swerved to the right onto State Route 46, went down an embankment and overturned. 

Akins was wearing a seatbelt but was pronounced dead at the scene, according to troopers. 

Unity Township EMS and fire department responded to the crash.

State Route 46 was closed for five hours while the accident was cleaned up.

Troopers are still investigating.
