Police report: Teen escapees from Belmont Pines found in Boardman hotel with man

BOARDMAN, Ohio - Boardman police have released the details surrounding the capture of several girls who escaped from Belmont Pines Hospital in Liberty Township over the weekend.
Staff at the behavioral hospital told police that four girls, ages 17, 14, 14 and 13, broke through two sets of security doors before then fled west towards Shady Road on Sunday.
Police said one of the teens was found on Monday and the remaining three were discovered in Boardman.
Just before 7 a.m. on Tuesday, police were called to the Boardman Inn on Market Street where they were told that an adult had helped the girls check into the hotel after they came to her for help the night before.
The owner of the hotel said that he had not seen the girls when they checked in, according to the police report.
Police said after they knocked on the door of the room for several minutes, one of the missing teens answered the door where they saw the two other teens laying on the bed with a 31-year-old man.
He was issued a criminal trespass for the Boardman Inn and the girls were taken into custody.
The man told police he did not know the girls were runaways and that he had met them downtown and accompanied them to the hotel, according to police.
He said they told him they were from Pennsylvania and needed assistance getting to Cleveland.
Police said the girls denied anything happened between them and the older man.
The three were arrested for being unruly juveniles.
However, when Boardman police were trying to move one of the teens into a Liberty police cruiser, she tried to escape, according to the report, but was caught and put in handcuffs.
Boardman police chief Todd Werth said police will review the case with the prosecutor's office to review any possible appropriate charges for the adults involved.
