Juneteenth brunch honors local leaders in Youngstown

Sunday was the second day of Youngstown's Juneteenth Weeklong Celebration.
The city is commemorating the holiday with a number of events through June 20.
Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, celebrates the emancipation of slaves in the United States.
Sunday afternoon, the Fifth Annual Juneteenth Brunch took place at the DeBartolo Stadium Club on Fifth Avenue.
Organizers said this year's celebrations are important to help educate those who may not know about the holiday and honor leaders in the community.
"I feel like Juneteenth is very important and is not celebrated enough," said Joncquil Hope, the executive director of Club Community Services. "I think that a lot of people are not even fully aware of its meaning and its impact on people's lives, so we really want to keep educating people on the importance of Juneteenth."
