Youngstown man charged for 'suspicious' blaze at closed Cortland golf course

CORTLAND, Ohio - A Youngstown man faces arson and other charges as the state fire marshal investigates a fire that destroyed a building on a closed Cortland golf course.
Flames and smoke could be seen from drivers along Route 11 shortly after 6:30 a.m. Tuesday as the fire spread through a storage barn at the now-closed Walnut Run Golf Course on East Main Street.
A second alarm was canceled after dispatchers learned that it was not the course clubhouse that was burning and crews on the scene got control of the fire.
Since there was nothing in the barn and no utilities connected to the barn at the time of the fire, officials are characterizing the cause of the fire as suspicious.
Police were on the scene to control traffic and questioned a man found covered in mud along nearby Everett Hull Road.
When officers questioned the man about what appeared to be burns on his hands, he told them it was from frostbite.
The suspect, 44-year-old Thomas Angelo McIntire of Youngstown was booked into the county jail on charges of arson, breaking and entering and criminal trespass.
