Young girl injured in Boardman after police say dog bit her skull

BOARDMAN, Ohio - A young girl was injured in Boardman Monday night after police said a dog got ahold of her and bit her skull.
The incident happened around 9:30 p.m. on the 700 block of Wildwood Drive.
Police said they were called to Akron Children's Hospital where the mother said her six-year-old daughter had gone to the neighbor's house to see if the boy who lived there could play.
According to the police report, at some point, the neighbor's dog attacked and severely injured the child.
The mother immediately put her daughter into a vehicle and took her to the emergency room.
Police were told by the doctor that the girl had two major lacerations which required 33 stitches to close.
The wounds extended to the galea tissue, which is the final layer of tissue protecting the skull.
Police said there were also numerous other small wounds not requiring stitches.
Police then went to the neighbor's home and the Mahoning County Dog Warden's office was contacted, but they did not respond to the scene.
She is expected to recover.
