WARREN, Ohio - It may not necessarily be the season for it, but Warren city council at least seems interested in the return of an ice staking rink downtown.

They discussed the possibility Wednesday at their regular meeting.

If approved, council president Jim Graham says the rink would be in Courthouse Square and operate from mid-November through February.

The city had an ice rink for two years from 2007 to 2009.

It was a hit too - it brought people from places like Pittsburgh and Ashtabula.

Graham believes it would be no different this time around.

He also feels the rink would improve economic development downtown.

But he quickly tempered the ambition of the project.

"If we do it, I want to do it right, make sure the citizens know what we're doing, that they have a chance to ask their questions," said Graham. "It's a destination and it would be a benefit to our children."

Graham says the state auditor would have to guide the city on how it could pay for the rink.

He also hinted at the use of public-private partnerships.

Council has until the end of the month to do its homework, get public input, and decide whether to buy the rink.
