Meijer gives green light to Howland superstore
Meijer, which recently opened a superstore in Boardman, has approved plans to build a similar store in Howland.
Cafaro Company spokesperson Joe Bell tells 21 News that Meijer has announced that it will construct a 159,000 square foot store at the site of the former Super Kmart building.
The Kmart would be demolished to make room for the Meijer store that would include a 3,376 square foot convenience store and fueling station across the parking lot near Route 46.
Bell says the supercenter will open at the Eastwood Mall Complex in 2023.
Demolition of the former Kmart building will begin soon and completion of the new Meijer will take an additional 12-14 months.
Meijer is a Grand Rapids, Michigan-based retailer that operates more than 250 supercenters and grocery stores throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and Wisconsin.
The Meijer Supercenter is just one of the big changes coming to the mall complex, according to Bell.
Retailer Boscov's is planning a grand opening celebrations on October 7, 8, and 9.
