15 heartworm positive dogs arrive in the Valley

Earlier Friday morning, 15 heartworm-positive dogs arrived at the Healthy Hearts and Paws project from four different shelters throughout South Carolina.
The project regularly pulls heartworm-positive dogs from these shelters to be treated and find a forever home.
"About twice a month, we help three to four shelters relieve the burden of heartworm-positive dogs. Today, there are actually 15 heartworm positive dogs, which is a pretty large transport for us," said Jason Cooke, the founder and president of the Healthy Hearts and Paws project.
The Healthy hearts and paws project takes in dogs with heartworm disease and takes care of them.
Cook also said that that they are at full capacity and are looking to the public to help find forever homes for these amazing dogs.
They also have a program called open yours hearts to save theirs. The program helps families decide to either foster to adopt or want to foster cover all medical expenses for the dogs.
"While a person is fostering or fostering to adopt or adopt through the Healthy Hearts and Paws Project, we will cover daily medications, month medications, neuter, heartworm treatments, dental expenses and any other medical expenses," said Cooke.
If you want to help out but aren't ready to adopt or can't, the project always needs volunteers, dog food, and milk bones.
