Thanks to a new Ohio Senate bill, consumer fireworks could soon be legalized in the state.

Senate Bill 113 passed in both Ohio chambers and is expected to get a signature from Governor Dewine within the next week.

Current state fireworks laws make it legal to buy fireworks in Ohio as long as residents take them out of state within 48-hours.

This new bill looks to change that provision, allowing people to purchase and set-off those consumer-grade fireworks on certain days of the year, including New Year's Eve and Day, Memorial Day Weekend, Juneteenth, and the Fourth of July.

The bill also will look to take a four percent cut of gross fireworks sales in Ohio to fund a safety board.

State Senator Mike Rulli said, "WE'RE GOING TO ISSUE YOU GOOGLES WHEN YOU BUY FIREWORKS. WE'RE GOING TO HAVE AN APP THAT YOU CAN DOWNLOAD AND WHERE YOU CAN LEARN TO HAVE FIREWORKS SAFELY. WE HAVE AN OPT-OUT IF YOU HAVE A COMMUNITY OR TOWNSHIP OR MUNICIPALITY IS UNCOMFORTABLE WITH FIREWORKS DISCHARGING."

The bill wouldn't go into effect until 2022, which means no setting-off fireworks this year.
