WARREN, Ohio - A Youngstown man told Warren police that he and his seven-year-old child were victims of a road rage incident where a man pulled a gun who said that Ohio is now a Stand Your Ground state.

According to a police report, a Dodge Stratus pulled up next to the victim’s car on Youngstown Road NE Tuesday afternoon and accused the driver of cutting him off.

The 34-year-old driver was with his seven-year-old child and said he tried to get away by pulling into a parking lot hoping the other driver would keep driving.

Instead, the Dodge pulled up behind his car and the driver got out and pointed a gun, according to the report.

The suspect allegedly told the victim that Ohio is now a Stand Your Ground state, referring to the recently enacted law that no longer requires people to retreat before they can justifiably hurt or kill someone with a gun in self-defense.

The victim said he told the other driver to put the gun away, telling the suspect that he didn’t have a gun.

The victim said he managed to drive away, but said the Dodge followed his car to Route 46 before ending the pursuit.

Police have the license number of the suspect’s car. The victim told officers he also has video of the incident.
