CAMPBELL, Ohio - The Campbell Memorial Alumni Association is extending the deadline to donate to its "54 at 54" fundraiser.

The initial deadline to donate had been June 30. The deadline has been extended to July 6.

Organizers say the fundraiser is a one-person golf marathon on July 6 by Campbell City Director of Law Brian Macala. It's to raise money for the alumni association's scholarship fund. Donors are committing to donating a minimum of $1 per golf hole Macala plays.

People or businesses can make their pledge by completing the pledge form online, by emailing their pledge to alumni@campbell.k12.oh.us or by contacting the Alumni Office at 330-799-1232.

Macala is a 1985 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School and was inducted into the Campbell Memorial Hall of Fame in 2019. He is a lifelong Campbell resident.

The fundraiser's name comes from Macala turning 54 years old this year, and him playing 54 holes of golf in one day.

"It is a lot of golf – more than I have ever played in one day," Macala said. "I wanted this to be greater than just some personal achievement. I wanted to turn this into something that would benefit my high school alma mater and my hometown."

The "54 at 54" will start at 7:45 a.m. on July 6. Macala will be playing the three regulation golf courses at the Oglebay Resort and Conference Center in Wheeling, West Virginia.

Organizers plan to livestream parts of the golf marathon on Macala's Facebook page.
