WASHINGTON, D.C. - Valley Congressman Tim Ryan joined other House members in a vote to launch a new investigation into the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

Ryan, chair of the House Appropriations Legislative Branch Subcommittee, voted to establish a bipartisan select committee to look into what happened.

The committee will be comprised of 13 members of Congress, five of whom will be appointed after consulting with Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.

The move comes after Senate Republicans blocked the formation of a 9/11 style nonpartisan commission to investigate the attack.

According to Ryan, the committee will be charged with investigating and reporting on the facts, circumstances and causes relating to the Jan. 6 riot. They'll be taking a look at the organization and execution of the attack, law enforcement and military preparation for and response to the attack as well as other factors.

Once the investigation is over, the committee will issue a final report to Congress with findings, results and legislative recommendations.
