Ohio budget bill stops Mill Creek Park from using eminent domain for bike trail

MAHONING COUNTY, Ohio - Ohio Governor Mike DeWine officially signed the state's new budget bill into law.
A facet of the budget bill affects Mill Creek Park's creation of a bike trail in the area.
The budget officially stops Mill Creek Park from using eminent domain to create a recreational bike trail through 13 people's private properties in Mahoning County.
Mill Creek Park released a statement Thursday about the new legislation.
"It is short-sighted legislative provisions, such as the targeted, unconstitutional eminent domain provision that was included in the recently approved State Budget, that continue to keep the Mahoning Valley community from being viewed in the same progressive manner as those in Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati and Toledo."
There's no word yet on if Mill Creek Park has an alternative plan on where else the bike trail could be constructed.
