BROOKFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio - Brookfield Trustees held a special meeting Tuesday morning to approve language in a replacement levy that will appear on the ballot in the fall.

The 1-mill replacement levy for the police department would replace the existing levy that has been in place for some time.

Trustee Dan Suttles explained that the current levy brings in around $50,000 for the police department. The new levy would bring in $137,893 if approved.

Suttles said the additional money would be used to help cover the cost of the student resource officer within Brookfield Local Schools.

The levy would also give the township the ability to hire an additional full-time police officer.

Suttles said the township wants to hire another full-time officer because it has been difficult to find part-time officers for the department in recent years.

If the new levy does not pass, the current levy would remain in place.
