WASHINGTON - Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown shared photos on his Twitter Wednesday showing the damage from the insurrection on the U.S. Capitol building.
Senator Brown said he took the photos on January 7, one day after insurrectionists stormed the U.S. Capitol.
The photos show boarded-up windows, shattered glass and dismantled furniture.
The damage came after a mob of supporters of former president Donald Trump made their way into the capitol in an attempt to overturn his defeat in the 2020 presidential election.
Congress had assembled to count the electoral votes and formalize Joe Biden's victory.
During the insurrection, five people died and more than 100 law enforcement officers were hospitalized.
The riot caused millions of dollars in damage to the building and surrounding area.
