Columbiana County behind state's vaccination coverage by 10%

COLUMBIANA COUNTY, Ohio - Columbiana County is 10 percentage points behind the state when it comes to full vaccination coverage.
The Columbiana County Health Department officials said they have not scheduled a vaccination appointment in weeks.
45% of Ohio's population is vaccinated, but Columbiana is sitting at a stagnant 35%.
Columbiana County Health Department Public Information Officer Laura Fauss said the low vaccine rate might be a response to low case rates.
"We've noticed they've been low and I think the seven-day average has been under two cases per day for the last two weeks," Fauss said, "So I think that's given a lot of the community members a chance to forget about the virus and go back to normal, so we just need to remember the virus is still here."
Fauss said lack of education is another huge issue the county is addressing.
"We're planning a PSA which we're really excited about," she said, "With some of our community members, some of our local doctors and we're also looking at doing some fliers."
Fauss said Columbiana County will also be offering the COVID vaccine at their county fair in August and encourages anyone not vaccinated to get their vaccine.
