Austintown grandmother allegedly shoots dog after it attacked child

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - An incident in Austintown led to a dog being shot after it allegedly attacked a child.
According to the report, the incident happened Monday around 9:30 p.m. at a home on the 200 block of N. Edgehill Avenue.
Reports say officers arrived and were told that the child was bleeding from the head and the dog had been shot by the grandmother.
Police found a child with a large wound on the top of her head and eyebrow. The child was taken to Akron Children's Hospital in Boardman by paramedics.
According to the report, the dog began growling and started snipping in the living room before the grandmother heard the child screaming.
Reports say the dog continued to growl and be aggressive, prompting the grandmother to grab her gun and shoot the dog until it fell to the ground.
The dog was reportedly shot in the head and the owner was made aware of the situation.
Reports say the dog was within the family and was up to date on its rabies shots.
