WARREN, Ohio - Workers at a Warren automotive technology company did not agree with their union leaders who were impressed with an unsolicited offer by management to raise pay.

In voting over the weekend, members of IUE-CWA Local 717 who work at APTIV rejected a Memorandum of Understanding from the company.  According to the union, the offer was rejected by a margin of 65% to 35%.

A letter sent earlier this month to members of IUE-CWA Local 717 said that for the first time in at least 25 years, management offered to increase the starting wage outside of normal bargaining.

Local 717 represents workers at the former Delphi Automotive, which in 2018 became Aptiv, a global technology company serving the automotive sector.

Aptiv designs and manufactures vehicle components and provides electrical and electronic and active safety technology solutions to the global automotive and commercial vehicle markets.

The agreement would have raised the starting wage to $15.00 per hour and anyone below that starting rate would have been increased to $15.00 immediately following ratification by the entire membership.

According to the union, members not affected by the starting rate increase would have been given a one-time $500 payment.
