YOUNGSTOWN - Herminia Lees says she was awakened after being struck by a bullet shortly after 11 p.m. Wednesday in her home on Benita Avenue.

"I was sleeping and I heard a click, then I had a burning in my side. At first, I thought it was a snake," said Lees.

Her husband Arnold also did not hear any shots fired but did hear the bullet as it struck then broke the back bedroom window.

Although in pain, Herminia is walking and recovering, feeling blessed the bullet did not strike any vital organs.

Lees added, "There was burning. A lot of blood was coming out, like a hose for water."

Youngstown Police say it was a .40 caliber bullet that went through the window, struck the victim, and entered a wall.

It's believed the bullet was shot several blocks away but traveled a significant distance.

Right now, police say there are no suspects.

Herminia and her husband say it's awful people shoot without thinking about innocent people or kids could be hurt.

Even with two holes, an entrance wound on her hip, and an exit wound on her leg, Herminia in her 70's is staying positive.

"I'm not concerned about it. It just happened. It happened one time, probably never again, I hope," said Lees.
