AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - A bicycle store that has been a fixture in Austintown since the 1950s is closing its doors Saturday.

Austintown Glenwood Cycle on Fitch Boulevard is closing as Chris and Don Johnson, brothers and owners of the business, retire.

The bicycle shop was opened by their parents, Chuck and Theresa Johnson, on May 1, 1954 on Glenwood Avenue in Youngstown.

They moved the shop to the current Austintown location in the 80s.

After Chuck and Theresa passed away, their sons and daughter-in-laws ran the business.

Austintown Glenwood Cycle has served the Mahoning Valley with Schwinn and Giant bicycles, repairs, industrial vehicles, parts and golf cart needs recently.

Owners Chris and Don Johnson say it's been a bittersweet week but they are thankful to see the community and old friends stopping in.

"We've seen a lot of people from the past that we haven't seen in a while, even people as far back as when my Mom and Dad started," said Don. "The Austintown community has been great, the people have been great, they have a fantastic police department, I can't say enough about them truthfully," said Chris.

All final items at the store will be on clearance until 2 p.m. Saturday when Austintown Glenwood Cycle closes its doors.
