Prison inmate jailed in Trumbull County for Warren carjacking

WARREN, Ohio - A Warren man serving 15 to 18 years in state prison for a violent carjacking, police pursuits, stealing a police cruiser, and choking a jail guard in Portage County, has been transferred to the Trumbull County Jail where he awaits trial on even more charges.
Nathaniel Crew, 22, faces a pretrial hearing in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court on Wednesday on charges of aggravated robbery, felonious assault, and two counts of failure to comply with the order of a police officer.
Crew was indicted for an incident one year ago after he allegedly struck a 54-year-old man on the head and choked him until he passed out in the parking lot of the Dollar General Store on Niles Road in Warren. When the victim regained consciousness, the victim said his Jeep Wrangler was gone.
Warren Township Police spotted the Jeep and, according to the report, chased it at speeds up to 100 miles per hour until the Jeep crashed on State Route 59 in Ravenna Township.
Crew was arrested, but police say he managed to move the handcuffs he was wearing to the front of his body, then slid into the front seat of the Warren Township Police cruiser and drove away.
After another pursuit, police caught up with Crew and arrested him again.
At the Portage County Jail, authorities say Crew placed a chokehold on a corrections officer and tried to drag her into a cell.
Crew was convicted and sentenced in Portage County in February for kidnapping, theft assault, escape, and failure to comply with the order of a police officer and now faces trial on the Trumbull County allegations.
