Warren mom cited for child endangering said she was at doctor's appointment

WARREN, Ohio - A Warren woman who came home to find police waiting faces three counts of child endangering.
Thirty-six-year-old Samantha Quilling has a court hearing scheduled for Thursday.
Police say a neighbor found two three-year-old children wandering around Fifth Street SW in dirty diapers Wednesday morning.
Officers found the front door open at a nearby apartment. Inside was a sleeping eight-year-old boy who said the children were his brother and sister. He said he didn’t know where his mother was.
Police described the conditions of the home as “disgusting”. “The floor was dirty and the air smelled of dirty diapers. Food and garbage were left all over the stairs, mixed in with kids clothing,” according to the police report.
As Children’s Services was contacted, Samantha Quilling came home, tearfully explaining to officers that she had been at a doctor’s appointment for two hours and thought this was an opportunity to find out if her eight-year-old son could watch his siblings.
The officer told Quilling she needed to let her son know he is being tested and that she was leaving.
Quilling was issued a summons to appear in Warren Municipal Court.
