Fire destroys New Castle home, neighbors evacuated
A husband, wife, two kids and a dog escaped the home next door.

NEW CASTLE, Pa. - Flames destroyed a home in New Castle Sunday morning leading neighbors to evacuate from their home.
The fire broke out around 5:30 a.m. at a home in the 500 block of North Mercer Street.
The two-and-a-half-story home was being renovated at the time of the blaze.
A couple living a few blocks away saw the glow and smoke in the sky and rushed to the house next door to wake up the family that lives there.
A husband, wife, two kids and a dog escaped the home next door.
Fire crews sprayed the neighboring home with water to keep it from catching fire.
New Castle Fire Chief Mike Kobbe said the home had no utilities turned on.
The home is a complete loss and officials are investigating the cause.
