YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -
A woman is behind bars after allegedly beating a mother with a hammer in front of her children.
The victim is speaking out after the traumatizing experience.
Autumn Hines has a continuing headache, recovering after being struck by a hammer a few times by her former friend.
"So the police came back around 30 minutes later, I was gushing blood, but my adrenaline was rushing so bad I didn't even know," said Hines.
She tells us everything went south after she had to ask her friend Jamela Chatman to move out since she was not on the lease of a home she rented through a YMCA program.
Things escalated on Saturday as Hines was driving near Gibson and Cameron. It was around 1:00 pm when Hines says Chatman drove in front of her car which forced her to stop.
The victim tells police that Chatman opened her door and started hitting her, and she fought back to defend herself. Hines says she saw a hammer
in Chatman's hands and was struck in her head.
The mother explained the attack happened in front of her 5-year-old twins, who had to watch. She added her daughter was screaming and her son frightened since a passenger in Chatman's vehicle started grabbing their hands trying to remove them from her car.
The passenger was not charged with attempted kidnapping. The woman told police she was trying to get the kids out of the way of what was going on. Hines said, "She never should have touched my children."
Hines added, "You turn around and do it in front of my kids. Yes, I'm hurt. Yes, I'm mad. I want her to pay for what you put me through, the mental stress, the emotional stress with me and my kids."
Chatman is charged with robbery accused of taking the Hines keys. The victim says she now has no car since she can't afford a new key.
