Trumbull, Mahoning Counties offer third COVID-19 vaccination dose

TRUMBULL COUNTY, OH - Trumbull County Combined Health District has announced Tuesday that a third COVID-19 vaccination dose is available for immunocompromised individuals.
Trumbull County vaccine clinics will be offering a third dose of the Pfizer vaccine or Moderna for those who qualify.
Those who qualify include:
- Individuals undergoing active treatment for cancer (solid tumor and hematologic malignancies).
- Individuals who have received a solid-organ transplant and are taking immunosuppressive therapy.
- Individuals who have received a CAR-T cell or hematopoietic stem cell transplant (within two years of transplant or taking immunosuppression therapy).
- Individuals with moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency (e.g. DiGeorge syndrome, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome).
- Individuals with advanced untreated or untreated HIV infection
- Individuals undergoing active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids, alkylating agents, antimetabolites, transplant-related immunosuppressive drugs, cancer chemotherapeutic agents classified as severely immunosuppressive, tumor-necrosis (TNF) blockers and other biologic agents that are immunosuppressive or immunomodulatory.
In addition, individuals who qualify must have a note from their position recommending they receive the third dose. The statement should not state the specific medical condition, only that the individual's condition qualifies for a third shot.
Qualifying individuals must also wait 28 days after being considered fully vaccinated and bring proof of vaccination with them.
According to Health Commissioner of Mahoning County Public Health, Ryan Tekac, Mahoning County is offering the third dose as well.
"What we do is encourage them is reach out to their health care provider or family physician to review if they are eligible for it and then they can reach out to our nursing division here to schedule that appointment," Tekac said.
Columbiana County is currently making plans to distribute a third dose as well, but nothing has been finalized at this time.
