Youngstown CityScape invited residents to the greenhouse property at 23-26 Belle Vista Ave. for a walk-through tour on Tuesday, Aug. 24 at 11:00 a.m.

Youngstown CityScape recently purchased the property which was formerly Briel's Flowers and Greenhouse. According to CityScape executive director, Sharon Letson, this is another step in beautifying the Mahoning Valley.

"We have project plans and partners ready to move forward at the site. Our first task was to give the building some TLC, undertake renovations and upgrade critical systems," Letson said.

Briel's flower shop was the last remaining greenhouse in the Mahonong Valley. By purchasing the property, Youngstown CityScape are able to preserve the city's last greenhouse.

Other future plans discussed at the tour included greenhouse upgrades, seasonal sales, a renovated retail area, workshop events and educational programs focused on horticultural, floral and gardening themes.

This project is courtesy of many first tier donors including the City of Youngstown/CDBG funding, the Frank & Pearl E. Gelbman Charitable Foundation/Huntington National Bank and even the Briel Family.

"We are excited to continue the legacy of the Briel family, operating as a greenhouse and florist resource for the community," Letson said.
