NEW CASTLE, Pa. - An Ellwood City man has been arrested in connection to a carjacking and robbery case that took place in West Pittsburg.

Police say 34-year-old Andrew Mercado allegedly threw an 82-year-old woman out of her Nissan Altima in the parking lot of the Dollar General store on Center Avenue and drove away in her car.

A BOLO was issued for Mercado and the car leading to officers from Chippewa, Darlington and Pennsylvania State Police finding the vehicle in the parking lot of Walmart.

Officers arrested Mercado as he exited Walmart with a buggy full of stolen merchandise.

Mercado was placed into the Lawrence County Jail on a previous warrant for aggravated assault.

Charges of robbery of a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property, assault and harassment are being filed stemming from the carjacking incident.
