Youngstown to consider $1,000 bonuses for vaccinated city employees

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - In one of the larger incentives the Mahoning Valley has seen to try to get more people vaccinated against COVID-19, the city of Youngstown is considering bonuses for all city employees who can prove they got the shot.
According to the proposal, city workers would get a one-time, $1,000 bonus for showing proof that they've received either two doses of the Pfizer, two doses of the Moderna or one dose of the Johnson and Johnson vaccines.
City employees who get vaccinated within 45 days after the ordinance passes would also be eligible for the payment, but it will not apply to any future booster shots.
Funding for the bonuses would come out of the city's American Rescue Plan funds.
Councilwoman Samantha Turner said it's important for city employees to be vaccinated because so many of them deal directly with the public.
"This is to show the public that we are doing everything we can to protect them," Turner said.
