Prisoner sentenced for Youngstown shooting death seeks release

YOUNGSTOWN - A man who still has nearly five years remaining of a 12-year sentence for a shooting death in Youngstown is asking a judge to be released from prison.
Mahoning County Common Pleas Court Judge John Durkin has scheduled a hearing on Tuesday to consider a motion from 35-year-old Charles Stanley for judicial release.
Stanley was indicted on charges of aggravated murder, murder, and aggravated burglary for the December 29, 2013, shooting death of 20-year-old Aldric Jones in a backyard on Fairmont Avenue in Youngstown.
After pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter with a firearm specification, Stanley was sentenced in 2016 to 12 years in prison, with credit for time served in jail.
Stanley, who has been denied judicial release three times over the past two years, has been brought to Mahoning County from the Lorain Correctional Institution for Tuesday's court hearing.
