Owners of Tommy Doggs in Niles are in the works of trying to expand their parking. But some neighbors living along Cedar Avenue say the bar's clientele cause disturbances and more parking will bring in more of an issue.

Neighbors voiced their concerns at Wednesday's special council meeting where bar owners were also present to defend their idea.

"You're talking more lights, you're talking about more vehicles coming and going," expressed one concerned resident. "If you put that parking out back and extend that, that's even more that we're going to hear."

"The business itself has created a lot of noise pollution, light pollution and safety concerns," added another resident.

Cedar Avenue residents say the owners have worked well with them. The owners even added a fence to the outside patio to control the noise.

"You're 50 years away from Route 46," expressed a man in support of Tommy Doggs. "It's one of the busiest roads in Niles."

"The residents don't really have a problem with her as a business owner but they want some peace and quiet," said Linda Marchese, 3rd Ward Councilwoman and Head of the Safety Committee. "So I understand both sides of this."

The owner's want to expand the bar parking lot into the property next to the bar. While the property is owned by the bar owner's, city council has to approve the zoned residential property to commercial property that allows the business to extend the parking lot.

The owner's were hoping to negotiate with Cedar Avenue residents, with council offering they could slightly extend the parking lot but not knock down the house.

"We're trying to find some sort of happy medium," Marchese said. "We don't want to get rid of anybody in our town."

The owner of Tommy Doggs declined to comment on camera.

There's no set timeline of when this expansion could be approved.
