Mansfield chosen as first site for Air National Guard Cyber Warfare wing

MANSFIELD, Ohio - An Ohio city has been selected by the U.S. Air Force as the first site for the Air National Guard's Cyber Warfare Wing.
Mansfield Air National Guard Base, home of the 179th Airlift Wing, was selected over the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport in Minnesota.
Ohio was chosen based on manpower, recruiting, building capacity and connectivity, construction costs and the cost of living.
The new cyber security mission in Mansfield will add 175 positions that are STEM and IT-focused.
"Ohio is gaining a leading-edge mission that will strengthen the fabric of the military community and further solidify Ohio as a national leader in cybersecurity excellence. Not only will this new mission bring more jobs into the community, but it will also spur more economic growth and create new opportunities for industry and academic growth," said Governor Mike DeWine.
The Air Force has not announced a timeline for the project yet but the next step is expected to be an environmental assessment of the site.
