MVR patriarch, Joe Cassese passes away
Cassese's MVR Restaurant patriarch, Joe Cassese passed away at 4:10 a.m. Friday morning.
The announcement came through the Cassese's MVR Facebook page via a statement:
"Nothing happens by chance. There is no such thing as coincidence. So it should shock no one that we lost Papa Joe Cassese this morning at 4:10 a.m. which happens to be the address of Cassese's MVR (410 North Walnut St.). We can still smile knowing that Papa is holding his granddaughter Jaclyn while Carmine gets the bocce courts ready. We love you Papa Joe Cassese and thank you for your dedication to Family, Friends, Faith and Youngstown."
Cassese's MVR has been open and serving the Mahoning Valley since 1927 specializing in Italian food as well as bocce courts.
"Papa Joe" was 90 years-old. His grandson currently operates the popular Mahoning Valley Restaurant. The restaurant is in it's 4th generation of family ownership.
Joe Cassese says his grandfather was "a very present and calming face and friend."
The family extends their gratitude to those who send condolences and say they are thankful for the many community connections.
