CANFIELD, Ohio - Hundreds continue to prep for the largest event in the Mahoning Valley and largest state fair in the State of Ohio.

With the Canfield Fair set to kick off Wednesday, vendors are preparing to welcome a crowd of over 350,000 fairgoers.

"It's been a part of our family since I remember," said Denean Ondash, vendor at the Canfield Fair. "Being a little girl and running from one stand to the next that my dad had."

"We've been over here setting up for a little over a week," said Beth Smith, 4-H educator. "Our club's came in during the weekend to set up their club displays."

Ondash says the Canfield Fair has been a part of her family for generations and says she proud to continue the legacy.

"My great grandfather used to have stands underneath the grandstand and then my grandfather had 20 stands out here at one time," Ondash said.

"I was in 4-H growing up bringing dairy cows to the fair," Smith said. "So the Canfield Fair means a lot to me and my family. It's kind of a reunion where you get to see everybody you only see once a year."

And for those who have never experienced a Canfield Fair before, vendors want you to know there's much more to do around here than just eat and enjoy some rides.

"We can put out the word about what the cost of freedom was," said Leo Connelly Jr., Senior Vice Commander, Military Order of Purple Hearts, Department of Ohio. "We want to come out here to be able to raise money to be able to help those veterans that need the help."

"I get to meet a lot of new people and experience the culture that is the Canfield Fair," said Kristen Eisenhauer, 4-H educator. "Since I'm not as familiar with it as most people that come."

Fair officials told 21 News there are slightly less vendors this year due to COVID-19 related issues with about 300 vendors still participating.
