BOARDMAN, Ohio - Appearing with his lawyer. Cardinal Mooney football coach Carl Pelini pleaded "not guilty" to domestic violence following an incident involving his wife over the weekend.

Dressed casually and appearing with his lawyer, the brother of former YSU Coach Bo Pelini appeared in Mahoning County Court in Boardman on Tuesday.

The judge ordered Pelini to have no contact with his wife, Julie.  Pelini will be staying with his brother for the time being.

Future court hearings will be heard in Canfield Court.

Boardman police chief Tod Werth told 21 News shortly before 8 a.m. Tuesday that Pelini turned himself in to police, where a booking photo was taken.

Werth said on Monday that Pelini had been talking with his attorney about turning himself in after being charged with one count of domestic violence.

A warrant was issued for Pelini's arrest after police investigated a domestic argument between the couple, during which Pelini's wife claimed that her husband struck her at their home. Police say Pelini's wife had a black eye.

The head coach of the Cardinal Mooney football team was placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigations and court process.

The Diocese is also investigating conduct by coach Pelini, who sources say was heated yelling inside the locker room at his team Friday night after they lost their football game to Hubbard.
