NEW CASTLE, Pa. - A New Castle police officer was injured during an arrest on Saturday.

On September 5, New Castle police officers were dispatched to a domestic dispute on the East Side of the City of New Castle.

When officers arrived on the scene, they learned that a female victim had been repeatedly punched and hit with a cast iron pan.

Police identified Marquent Whetzel as the offender, who fled the scene in a silver Jeep before police arrived. Officers were later able to track down Whetzel on Arlington Avenue during a traffic stop.

According to police, when Whetzel was being put under arrest, he resisted and tried to headbutt an officer, and spit in the officers face as well.

Officers searched Whetzel's vehicle and found 15 grams of methamphetamine and 15 grams of heroin. Whetzel is being charged with aggravated assault, 3 counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, terroristic threats, resisting arrest or other law enforcement and domestic violence and was taken to Lawrence County Jail.

One New Castle police office was taken to UPMC Jameson for an injury to his shoulder and was released.
