Mahoning County Board of Elections will be losing a long time member this year.

Board chairman Mark Munroe announced that he will retire effective September 30, 2021.

Munroe has been apart of the Mahoning Valley Board of Elections for 30 years, and announced at a meeting held today that this month will be his last.

Munroe will look back at his time on the Board of Elections fondly, and is proud of the work that the board has done over the past 30 years.

"l have seen many changes over the past 3 decades, including new voting systems, changes in election law, a reduction in precincts, early and no fault absentee voting and much more. There have been hearings, protests, challenges and lawsuits, but at the heart of it all was the board of elections working to run good elections that voters could have confidence in. My number one goal was to always conduct our business in such a way as to encourage faith and
trust in the system. Nothing was more important," Munroe said.

Munroe felt that September was a good time for him to step down, considering it is his birthday month and wants to enjoy it. He'll be keeping busy during retirement with his new granddaughter, his work on his 1978 MGB car and will work on improving his Morse code.
