STRUTHERS, Ohio -  A Poland Township woman who was accused last of leaving someone’s baby in a car while she went shopping last month has been sentenced to six months in jail for another crime involving her own child.

Heather Strojny, 36, was booked into the Mahoning County jail on Wednesday to begin serving her sentence after being found guilty in Struthers Municipal Court of contributing to the delinquency of a child.

According to a police report, Poland Township Police filed charges against Strojny in August of last year after officers found her underage teen son in the parking lot of a Poland church at 4:30 in the morning.

Then last month, Strojny was charged with child endangering for allegedly leaving a crying toddler alone in an SUV while she went shopping.

According to a police report, two women spotted a toddler wearing a dirty diaper inside a GMC Envoy parked outside the Giant Eagle on Center Road at around 7 p.m.

The women told police that a window was partially open, but not wide enough for them to rescue the child.

Police say Strojny came out of the store with a cart full of groceries. A review of the surveillance video shows she was in the store for 19 minutes, according to the report.

Strojny told police that the child isn’t hers, but she had been watching the two-year-old for a friend.

Charges filed in that case are still pending in municipal court.
